Our California-based client is looking for an Architectural Designer to support custom single-family residential projects from Schematic Design through Construction Documentation, with a strong focus on producing accurate, coordinated, and buildable drawing packages. What you will do

  • Support custom single-family residential projects across Schematic Design (SD), Design Development (DD), Permit, Bidding, and Construction Documentation (CD) phases.
  • Prepare and develop complete construction document sets, including floor plans, reflected ceiling plans, sections, elevations, schedules, and architectural details.
  • Develop comprehensive plan sets throughout the SD, DD, Permit, and CD phases.
  • Incorporate and resolve design redlines and markups accurately throughout all project phases.
  • Prepare detailed permit packages for submission to local authorities, preferably in California.
  • Produce complete Construction Document (CD) sets for presentation to general contractors.
  • Coordinate architectural drawings with structural, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing consultants to ensure complete and coordinated documentation.
  • Review drawings for technical accuracy, consistency, constructability, and compliance with project standards.
  • Identify coordination conflicts proactively and communicate technical questions and potential issues to the project lead.
  • Translate design intent into clear, detailed, and buildable documentation.
  • Produce and revise drawings primarily in AutoCAD 2D, while using Rhino and SketchUp for 3D modeling and design coordination as needed.
  • Follow the firm’s documentation standards, templates, file organization, and workflows.
  • Collaborate closely with the project lead and team, becoming increasingly autonomous after onboarding.
  • Work primarily on custom single-family residential projects.

What you'll need to know

  • Bachelor’s degree in Architecture or a related field.
  • 4+ years of professional experience in residential architectural production.
  • Advanced English level.
  • Very strong proficiency in AutoCAD.
  • Proficiency in Rhino and SketchUp.
  • Proven experience producing residential design documentation from SD through CD phases.
  • Experience preparing permit packages for local authorities.
  • Experience producing complete Construction Document (CD) sets for general contractors.
  • Solid experience coordinating architectural documentation with structural and MEP consultants.
  • Strong experience working on custom single-family residential projects.
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. residential design standards, construction documentation, and building systems.
  • Experience working on residential projects in California is highly valued. Candidates without California experience should demonstrate strong experience on U.S.-based residential projects
  • and a solid understanding of applicable U.S. building codes.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to translate design intent into coordinated, buildable documentation.
  • Ability to identify drawing conflicts, communicate proactively, and work both collaboratively and independently.
  • Ability to work independently in a full-time remote role aligned with Pacific Time (PT).
