Chief Architect (Part-Time, Florida)

Position closed

About this job

Do you have an obsessive eye for detail and a passion for delivering world-class luxury residential architecture? Are you a highly experienced architect with deep expertise in high-end custom homes and Florida residential permitting? We’re looking for a Chief Architect to collaborate remotely, supporting a South Florida-based design-build firm with a focus on producing permit-ready construction sets, photorealistic 3D visualization, and luxury interior architecture. This is a part-time opportunity, ideal for someone who excels in precision, leadership, and technical excellence — with strong potential to evolve into a full-time role.

BetterPros unlocks human potential by offering competitive compensation, flexibility, constant learning and growth, and the opportunity to work anywhere you want with one of our +130 active clients across the United States.

What you will do

  • Produce complete, permit-ready construction sets independently, including full architectural drawing sets, code compliance sheets, structural coordination, interior elevations, millwork details, window & door schedules, finish schedules, product specifications, and custom construction details.
  • Interpret plan reviewer comments thoroughly and implement corrections precisely and completely, supporting projects in strict municipalities such as Coral Gables and Pinecrest where precision is non-negotiable.
  • Create high-end, photorealistic 3D renderings that match the actual CAD construction drawings, reflect accurate materials and detailing, and support both client presentations and brand positioning — every visualization must be realistic and buildable, with no conceptual-only designs.
  • Design and detail luxury interior architecture, including custom kitchens, built-in millwork, lighting layouts, bathroom detailing, flooring transitions, stone layouts, stair and railing systems, and architectural feature walls.
  • Lead the Pre-Construction Department by managing design and permit timelines, coordinating with structural engineers, MEP consultants, and surveyors, leading internal design meetings, and presenting design concepts to clients.
  • Ensure drawings are build-ready before release and maintain organized digital file systems, bringing structure and eliminating design chaos across the department.
  • Act as a senior leader who owns every sheet that leaves the office, from concept through permit-ready plans.

What you'll need to know

  • 5+ years of experience in high-end residential architecture.
  • Strong background in luxury custom homes and large-scale residential remodels.
  • Florida residential permitting experience.
  • Experience drafting full custom home plan sets and working with strict zoning or review boards.
  • Advanced proficiency in Revit and AutoCAD.
  • Experience with rendering engines such as Lumion, Twinmotion, V-Ray, or similar.
  • Builder-minded approach with a clear understanding of constructability.
  • Obsessive attention to detail and a commitment to reviewing your own work thoroughly before submission.
  • Strong organizational and systems-oriented mindset.
  • Ability to take initiative, communicate clearly and professionally, and remain calm under pressure.
  • Ability to manage deadlines and work effectively in a part-time, remote environment.

A great plus

  • Experience working in high-value South Florida residential markets.
  • Previous experience leading a pre-construction or design department.
  • Interest in growing into a full-time leadership role as the engagement evolves.
