Electrical / Low Voltage Drafter (Part Time, New York)

About this job

Do you have a background in electrical engineering or electrical/low-voltage drafting, strong Revit skills, and a knack for documenting complex technical systems? We’re looking for an Electrical / Low Voltage Drafter to join our client, based in New York, on a part-time basis with availability in Eastern Standard Time (EST).

This firm specializes in lighting, IT, sound, and communication systems for highly complex theater and architectural projects. This position focuses on modeling and detailing existing low-voltage and IT system designs in Revit, not on designing systems from scratch.

BetterPros unlocks human potential by offering competitive compensation, flexibility, constant learning and growth, and the opportunity to work from anywhere with 130+ active clients across the United States. In this case, we are looking for someone to join our internal team and provide excellence to help make the magic happen.

What you will do

  • Model and detail low-voltage and IT systems in Revit based on provided designs (documentation only, no system design required).
  • Document systems such as structured cabling, fiber optics, and server rooms.
  • Develop project documentation from Schematic Design (SD) through Construction Documents (CD).
  • Prepare and update:
  • SD–CD sets including floor plans, sections, elevations, and details.
  • Permit sets for submission to local authorities.
  • Perform 3D modeling in Revit during SD and DD phases.
  • Pick up and implement redlines and markups accurately throughout the project.
  • Ensure drawings are accurate, coordinated, and aligned with project standards.
  • Collaborate closely with the client’s internal team to meet deadlines and documentation requirements.
  • Maintain organized, high-quality Revit models and drawing sets throughout the project lifecycle.

What you'll need to know

  • Background in electrical engineering or experience in electrical/low-voltage drafting.
  • Strong proficiency in Revit.
  • Ability to understand and document low-voltage systems such as structured cabling, fiber optics, and server rooms.
  • Solid understanding of architectural and technical drawing standards.
  • Ability to accurately interpret markups, redlines, and design intent.
  • Strong attention to detail and consistency across drawing sets.
  • Excellent communication skills and fluent English.
  • Ability to work independently in a remote, collaborative environment.

A great plus

  • Experience with IT/telecom systems documentation.
  • Experience working on theater, performance, or architecturally complex projects.
  • Familiarity with coordination between low-voltage, lighting, and sound systems.
  • Prior experience supporting SD–CD documentation workflows in U.S. projects.
