Structural Engineer (Full Time, Florida)

About this job

Are you a structurally minded engineer who leads projects from first sketch to final inspection — and thrives doing it? Do you bring both technical depth and project management discipline to every job, with the ability to guide a team while delivering high-quality structural designs on deadline? One of our Florida-based clients is looking for a Full-Time Structural Engineer to join their growing structural design team, taking ownership of commercial and residential projects from concept through completion.

BetterPros unlocks human potential by offering competitive compensation, flexibility, constant learning and growth, and the chance to work anywhere you want with one of our +130 active clients across the United States.

What you will do

  • Lead complete project life cycles, from concept design and design development through Construction Documents, permitting, and construction administration.
  • Design and detail structural systems for a wide range of commercial project types, including foundations, framing (concrete, steel, wood, and hybrid), and lateral systems.
  • Perform structural analysis using industry-standard FEA software and document load paths, calculations, and design rationale with precision.
  • Prepare and execute full document specifications: structural drawings including foundation plans, framing plans, sections, schedules, and connection details to permit quality.
  • Collaborate directly with clients, consultants, contractors, and project representatives — maintaining seamless communication across all phases.
  • Manage all project milestones and deliverables under strict deadlines, proactively identifying and resolving issues before they become field problems.
  • Review architectural and consultant drawings for constructability and code compliance before permit submission.
  • Respond to construction-phase RFIs and field conditions with timely, well-documented solutions.
  • Guide and mentor junior team members, helping them grow as the organization expands.

What you'll need to know

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (Master’s preferred).
  • Advanced English level, both written and spoken — with the ability to communicate clearly with colleagues and clients at all levels.
  • Minimum 8 years of experience in structural design, drafting, and detailing across a wide range of project types.
  • Strong familiarity with local Florida building codes and governing agency requirements, or demonstrated ability to master a new code environment quickly.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, ETABS, SAFE, and RISA-3D or equivalent FEA software.
  • Proven project management skills: excellent planning, organization, and attention to detail with a track record of on-time delivery.
  • Experience working directly with contractors during construction — not just at the drawing stage.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and deliver multiple concurrent project milestones without sacrificing quality.

A great plus

  • Direct experience with Florida building codes and associated governing agencies.
  • Commercial project experience across multiple typologies (office, mixed-use, hospitality, institutional, etc.).
  • Proficiency in Bentley structural products or additional BIM coordination tools.
  • Coastal or high-wind construction experience: corrosion-resistant detailing, treated lumber requirements, and flood zone elevation strategies.
  • Experience mentoring junior engineers or leading small internal teams.
