Architectural Drafter (Part Time, New Jersey)

About this job

We are currently looking for a part-time Architectural Designer to join one of our client’s teams and support the delivery of residential construction documentation across New Jersey.
The ideal candidate has hands-on experience working with U.S.-based architecture firms and is confident taking a project from schematic direction through to permit-ready Construction Documents in Revit. The role is production-focused — translating the principal’s sketches, notes, and redlines into clean, accurate, well-coordinated drawing sets — with a consistent weekly schedule of approximately 10 hours per week.

BetterPros unlocks human potential by offering competitive compensation, flexibility, constant learning and growth, and the opportunity to work anywhere you want with one of our +130 active clients across the United States.

What you will do

  • Produce construction document sets in Revit for residential projects, including renovations, additions, and alterations in New Jersey.
  • Translate schematic-level direction, sketches, and notes into clean, consistent, permit-ready drawings.
  • Take ownership of assigned drawing scopes — keeping files organized, versioned, and aligned with project standards.
  • Develop and update plans, elevations, sections, and details as required to complete the set.
  • Implement redlines efficiently and maintain version control as sets evolve through project phases.
  • Coordinate drawing consistency across the set, including dimensions, tags, notes, and callouts.
  • Prepare permit-ready documentation aligned with typical U.S. residential drawing standards.
  • Flag missing information, constructability questions, or conflicts early and propose solutions proactively.
  • Manage weekly workload within the agreed time block, supporting deadlines while maintaining quality.
  • Communicate progress clearly, confirm priorities before executing changes, and provide regular status updates.
  • Use email and video calls for check-ins and alignment, minimizing unnecessary meetings.
  • Support ongoing residential projects as workload fluctuates across renovation, addition, and alteration scopes.

What you'll need to know

  • A degree in Architecture or a related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of professional experience in architectural production.
  • Strong Revit proficiency — comfortable producing full construction document sets from start to finish.
  • Experience developing complete CD packages: plans, elevations, sections, and details.
  • Ability to work from direction, sketches, and redlines and translate them into clean, coordinated documentation.
  • Solid understanding of drawing standards and coordination practices for architectural deliverables.
  • Previous experience with U.S. residential single-family projects.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to consistent documentation quality.
  • Advanced English level.
  • Reliable communication, clear responsiveness, and ability to maintain a consistent weekly schedule.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage priorities in a deadline-driven environment.
